Becoming a Volunteer
Volunteering with the Port Monmouth Fire Company offers a genuine sense of purpose, strong camaraderie, and the chance to make a lasting impact in our community. Whether you're on the front lines or supporting operations behind the scenes, there is a place for you here.
- Social Members (Ages 18+): You do not need to fight fires to make a meaningful difference. Social members (open to both certified firefighters and non-operational volunteers) keep our firehouse running smoothly by managing administrative duties, organizing community fundraisers, and participating in company meetings.
- Interior Firefighters (Ages 18+): For those looking to respond to active calls, we provide the path to attend the fire academy and earn your New Jersey Firefighter 1 certification. You'll receive comprehensive classroom instruction and hands-on training to prepare you for safe fireground operations. No prior experience is required.
- Junior Firefighters / Fire Explorers (Ages 14–17): High school teens can gain hands-on training and leadership skills through the Middletown Fire Explorer Post. Qualified Explorers can even assist on scene during active calls alongside experienced members.
No matter your background, we will give you the training and support you need to succeed.
- Free Training & Gear: All required state training—including Firefighter 1 certification through the Middletown Township Fire Academy—and personal protective gear are provided at no cost.
- Middletown Township Incentive Program: Eligible active volunteers can qualify for municipal benefits, including annual property tax reimbursements, local fee waivers (such as free parking at the Middletown Train Station), and first-time homebuyer assistance.
- Life & Leadership Skills: Develop practical experience in incident response, crisis management, and teamwork that translate directly to professional and personal growth.
- Retirement & Scholarship Opportunities: Qualify for Length of Service Award Programs (LOSAP) and department-sponsored educational scholarships.
